Peonies tree – Many people ask me about planting a peony tree and a woman told me that she has bought 2 peonies in successive years and they never grow, so she asks for some suggestions, but determines madness, does the repeatedly, expecting different results. . After winter in cold storage, no root feeder is left behind, so it’s best to plant in FALL, when the roots get a chance to become established. You need to plant about 6 weeks before the winter sets. Peony trees are usually grafted into herbaceous herbs. Roots help the peony trees to settle, takes about 2-3 years. A good grower will wait to sell the plant while it is at its own root, but some others who are not so reliable, can sell it at a discount with the herb root still attached. This only leads to bad crops and sometimes the original peony roots will begin to install their own stems. Plant your peony tree 10-15 inches in very dry and slightly acidic soil with protection from the sun, during today’s hottest part. The real key to success with this beautiful plant, is to plant it at the right time, in the fall !!
Squirrel Repellent – Use an old spice bottle with a hollow cover, fill it with cayenne pepper, sprinkle around your young transplant to ward off squirrels, it not only works for it, but also makes squirrels from bird feeders, and birds do not seem to mind a bit! !! At least they keep feeding.

String in the garden – I do not know about you, but I have a lot of rifles in my garden in the summer and fall, because the plants get too high and need help to stand up, so I have a “strap” It really helps me to stay neat and clean. If you have to buy a big cone from a string, it can be expensive, big and hard to handle, so why not let this idea be tried! Take the bleach bottle (empty of course) and cut the flap on the side big enough to make the cone strings. Insert the rope cone inside it and string string thread through the lid. Put some Velcro strands on the flap you cut open, so it’s easy to open and close. Bring “string thing” (never find a name for it !!) and pull out the string as needed through the lid. While the strings keep dry and clean inside. I have found this very helpful when working in the garden. I am a master gardener and love to pass on tips and advice that I can to save time and money.
